Within this function you will deepen your understanding of legal issues at a local and global level. At a local level you will gain an in-depth understanding of regulation related issues and corporate governance. At a broader level you will gain a fuller understanding of competition law, EU engagement matters, taxation, risk management and strategy. There is also opportunity for you to have a secondment in another function.
End Market Legal Department
During the time you spend at the End Market Legal Department you can gain a thorough understanding of most of the day to day work of an end market lawyer which includes reviewing and drafting local simple agreements, coming across the basic corporate and business governance of an End Market, getting involved in the EM day to day business and making at least one market visit.
Other Departments
There is a possibility that you may also gain experience within Globe House headquarters as well as another European location. At the Globe House headquarters you can gain an insight into the importance of legal related matters for the BAT group, global issues for the business and centres of excellence that are dealing with them setting strategies and direction for the function and also for the business. You may become familiar with regulatory issues and strategy, and gain a very good knowledge of corporate governance requirements and the importance of the role of the Legal Function in this respect. Within a European office, you will have an opportunity to gain an understanding of the European Business, competition law, EU engagement matters, tax matters that are important for BAT and risk management.
